Our Bainbridge Island tour explores the wooded country getaway that has long attracted Seattleites seeking relaxation and nature. Nestled amongst the dense forests, acres of parkland, and scenic bays lies a burgeoning wine-making scene and beautiful Bloedel Reserve. Attracted to the welcoming and quaint community, Bainbridge’s new generation of winemakers is producing great wine in one of the most beautiful places in our region. A Bainbridge Island winery and Bloedel Reserve tour makes an incredibly enjoyable and approachable Seattle day trip.

“You may not have been to Bainbridge Island, but odds are good you know what it looks like. The gorgeous Puget Sound spot has been a filming location for Grey’s Anatomy and is a regular backdrop for style bloggers and Instagrammers. While it’s mostly a quiet residential getaway, Bainbridge is a romantic, laid-back place to spend a day, and you’ll feel like you’re many miles farther away.”

– Lilit Marcus, Vogue

Join one of our professional local guides as we ride to the Island on the scenic Washington State Ferry, taking in sweeping views of Seattle and surrounding mountains. Once on Bainbridge, we’ll head to the spectacular Bloedel Reserve. Here, enjoy a stroll through beautiful forests and admire perfectly manicured gardens at the former estate of a wealthy timber family. From there, we’ll explore the rest of Bainbridge’s colorful history, including visiting the Japanese American Exclusion Memorial. Afterward, it’s all fun as we visit two local wineries that provide an enjoyable, relaxing, and educational tasting experience.

Please note that guests must be 21 years or older with valid identification to participate in wine tasting.

9:00 AM: Pick-Up

Morning pick-up at your downtown Seattle hotel or vacation rental in our luxury Mercedes van. For guests staying outside the city center, pick-up is available at the Charter Hotel at 1610 2nd Ave.

9:30 AM: Ferry to Bainbridge Island

Enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in our favorite views of the Seattle skyline. A ride on the Bainbridge ferry is a must-do tourist activity for its breathtaking views of Puget Sound, the Cascades, and the Olympic Peninsula.

10:30 AM: Bloedel Reserve

After arriving on Bainbridge, we’ll head to the beautifully manicured estate of the wealthy Bloedel family. Prentice and Virginia Bloedel created this 150 acre forested reserve with an eye for conservation and aesthetic beauty. We’ll take a guided nature walk around the property to enjoy the lush gardens and varied landscape.

12:30 PM: Lunch

We’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch on one of the island’s scenic beaches or at a local restaurant, depending on weather conditions.

2:00 PM: Japanese American Exclusion Memorial

We’ll delve into island history at this National Park Service site, where we’ll learn and reflect upon the local history of Japanese-American internment during World War II.

2:30 PM: Wine Tasting

We’ll spend the afternoon visiting two Bainbridge Island wineries with excellent wine and fun atmospheres. Bainbridge’s wine scene has taken off in recent years and is now filled with friendly down-to-earth producers who have a clear passion for their work. The culture is relaxed, educational, and unpretentious. All tasting fees are included in the tour.

5:35 PM: Ferry to Seattle or Optional Drop-Off in Winslow

Consider capping off your day on Bainbridge with an evening in Winslow, the island’s charming downtown area. With tasting rooms, restaurants, and boutique shops, it’s the perfect way to end the day. It’s an easy 10-minute walk to the ferry back to downtown Seattle (free for walk-on passengers).
